A good first position in the Security Industry can be the key to a successful and fulfilling career. But how do you prepare (and get licensed), for that first job? Knight Training Institute can give you advice and training, and help you make the connections to get that assignment. Let’s start with the training.
It all starts with the 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Course
Once you have decided to pursue a career in the security industry, acquiring the required licensing for your state or municipality is the first step. KTI is based in, and provides training for licensing in, New York State, so we’ll talk about getting your license in The Empire State.
The first required course for a security guard license is the 8 hour pre-assignment security training. As the name suggests, this course is 8 hours over the course of one day, to learn the general duties and responsibilities of a security guard. At the end of the course, there is an exam which must be passed to successfully complete the training.
The NYS security licensing exam is a piece of cake if you pay attention and take notes during the 8 hour course. Ask questions if you need to – KTI’s instructors have all the answers.
You can take this course live, online, via Zoom, with Knight Training Institute’s certified training instructors. KTI has received a special dispensation from New York State to provide our Security Guard Training Courses online because of COVID-19.

KTI offers a substantial discount when you sign up for both 8 hour and 16 hour courses at the same time. You have 90 days from your first date of employment to complete the course.

KTI can assist with job placement and continuing security guard training, including the New York State required 8 Hour Annual In-Service training, and Executive Protection.
