Getting fingerprinted for NYS Security License
The New York State Security Guard Licensing application process requires applicants to undergo fingerprinting as part of the background check process. Knight Training Institute is providing the information below to assist you in your application.
Here are the steps to get fingerprinted as part of the application process:
- Visit the NYS Division of Licensing Services website and create an account.
- Once you have created an account, log in and start a new application for a security guard license.
- During the application process, you will be prompted to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.
- Click on the link provided to schedule an appointment with a Live Scan fingerprinting provider.
- Live Scan fingerprinting providers are available at various locations throughout New York State. You can search for a provider near you by entering your zip code on the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services website.
- Once you have found a provider near you, contact them to schedule an appointment. You will need to provide them with your name, date of birth, and the reason for your fingerprinting (i.e., NYS Security Guard License).
- At the time of your appointment, bring a valid form of identification, such as a driver’s license or passport, with you.
- The Live Scan provider will take your fingerprints using a digital fingerprint scanner. This process is quick and easy and typically takes just a few minutes.
- After your fingerprints have been taken, the Live Scan provider will submit them electronically to the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services for a background check.
- The NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services will review your fingerprints and conduct a background check to determine if you are eligible for a security guard license.
- If your background check is cleared, you will be notified by the NYS Division of Licensing Services and can continue with the rest of the security guard licensing application process.
- If your background check is not cleared, you may need to provide additional information or documentation to the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services in order to be eligible for a security guard license.
It’s important to note that the process of getting fingerprinted and completing a background check can take several weeks, so it’s important to plan ahead and schedule your fingerprinting appointment as soon as possible. Additionally, you will need to pay a fee for the fingerprinting and background check services. The fee varies depending on the provider you choose, so be sure to ask about the cost when you schedule your appointment. By following these steps, you can successfully complete the fingerprinting requirement and move forward with your security guard license application.
