8 Hour Annual In-Service Training Course for Security Guards
Once you have received a security guard license, New York State requires all security guards to take the 8 Hour Annual Security Course within 12 calendar months from completion of the 16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course for Security Guards. The 8 Hour Annual In-Service Training Course for Security Guards must be taken annually thereafter.
Knight Training Institute (KTI) offers the course which is structured to review basic information from your initial training, and provide students with updated and enhanced information on the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. KTI prides itself on staying on top of the latest security trends and needs to meet all requirements of New York State.
Topics covered in the 8 Hour Annual In-Service Training Course for Security Guards include:
- Role of the security guard
- Legal powers and limitations
- Emergency situations
- Communications and public relations
- Access control
- Ethics and conduct
All courses are available either online via Zoom or in-person, you will be asked when registering how you will attend. Students must attend the entire course. An examination will be given on the same day and a minimum passing score of 70% is required. KTI will provide a certificate of completion to all students with a passing score.
For security guards interested in celebrity and executive protection, we offer the Celebrity & Executive Protection Training Course, created by our founder Ed Troiano.
New York State law requires registration and training of security guards in the state. KTI is a New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services approved security guard training school.
